Gua Sha is one of the oldest forms of traditional Chinese medicine ever recorded. There are historical records of its use dating back to the stone ages, where stones or hands were rubbed on various parts of the body in an effort to alleviate pain or symptoms from illness. It was also commonly known as “scraping” or “coining” as spoons and coins were often used to perform manipulation of the skin with a scraping motion. We have now proven and understand, through clinical research, the benefits of gua sha as an anti inflammatory and immune system booster. Gua Sha helps move lymphatic fluid, stimulates the piezoelectric properties of the connective tissues/fascia and increases surface microcirculation in the tissue of the skin following treatment. All of which activate the healing process in the affected area.
